2014 Edition

In its first edition, Varignana Music Festival offered a program of chamber music, where works by some of the great composers, from Bach to Debussy, and Brahms to Rachmaninov, has been in the hands of renowned musicians, who took turns on stage, alternating between solo recitals and duets, followed by quartets and quintets with piano and clarinet.  The musicians on the program included Mischa Maisky, one of the most acclaimed cellists on the international scene, Lily Maisky who performed with such artists as Martha Argerich, Janine Jansen and Renaud Capuçon, Alexander Romanovsky, a highly successful pianist winner of the prestigious Busoni Competition in 2001, Hracya Avanesian, Armenian violinist and winner of the international Menuhin and Carl Nielsen competitions, the legendary Janáček String Quartet, established in 1947 in Brno and named after the great Czech composer and Anton Dressler, extraordinary clarinetist who has taken part in the most prestigious festivals playing with musicians such as Julian Rachlin and Moni Ovadia.[/column]
